200th Post Giveaway!

When I was thinking about the number 200, I immediately traveled back to 1976 and our country's bicentennial. I learned every patriotic song ever written! We sang them in school and my father performed in a variety show with a patriotic theme. There was a patriotic assembly the day of our school pictures, so we got to wear red, white and blue instead of the usual Catholic school uniforms. (I hated that scarf.)

Since today is the 4th of July, how about a red, white and blue themed giveaway?
So far, I made for you:

A coiled fabric bowl (candy dish size)
A paper-pieced star lapel pin
A paper bead bracelet
and every quilty/crafty blog reader needs some candy!

To win these goodies (and maybe more), leave a comment with your fondest patriotic memory or your favorite thing to do on the 4th of July. (Make sure I know how to reach you!)
I'll pick a winner on Thursday, July 8.

God Bless America!

I grew up on a dairy farm way out in the country - my dad was very old skool - a man's man. But on 4th of july, he went into town and bought fireworks, and I mean a LOT of fireworks, and he invited all the neighboring farmers who brought watermelons, peach ice cream and iced tea - and we had the most glorious fireworks show anywhere around ! Life was good back then - we have been poor financially but we had wealth beyond everything in our friends

Daddy is gone from this world but I think of him every 4th when I hear that first BOOM ...

I think my favorite thing to do on the 4th is spend time with the family, enjoying a picnic. It is usually too hot in Florida to have a picnic during the day, so we often have it later in the day and then some fireworks. But I think the best thing to do is to honor our nation and the men who gave their lives to make it free. We can't enjoy the 4th without remembering that freedom is never really free. Thanks for including me in your giveaway.

When I was growing up I remember our family picnics on the Fourth of July. My mom was the mover and shaker who always invited all of the family to our house for a picnic on those summer patriotic holidays. We were lucky that everyone lived close by and could make it there easily. Unfortunately, my family is now spread out and we can't get together as easily. So... I get to use this "free" time to get to some sewing that must be done. We are all together in spirit.

Thanks for giving me the chance to share.

Hi Tina! I can't compete with these other memories but I remember we were married in May of 1976 so that July 4th, seeing fireworks with my new husband and my family, was really special. You are a poster child for patriotism! Keep up the good work.

My mother always put high value on traditions and every year we would go downtown and watch the parade. In our little town, it wasn't much, and it was always hot, as summers tend to be.

I am certain that I was a typical kid who did not want to go, but I would do it again today without hesitation.

God Bless America.

I grew up in a town with a parade at 11 and they had a baby parade at 9am of baby carriages all decked out in ribbons and flags, kids got to ride their bikes in this parade and we would spend hours weaving the crepe paper in the spokes to dress up our bikes
at the end of the baby parade they gave us ice cream at 10 am in the morning we all thought that was so cool!
the big parade lasted 2 hrs and was amazing, then a barbque and fireworks at night
boy do I miss those days , unfortunately I live far away from my hometown now..but we always have a bar b que, search out a parade and watch the fireworks.
Happy 4th one of my favorite holidays

my favorite memories of 4th of july is when I was a kid in cape cod. the 4th meant a huge parade, picnics and fire work show at the beach. the biggest treat was to be selected to ride the firetruck. I never was chosen but it was fun to see my friends on the trucks (most of the kids had dads that were firemen). I leve in Va now but I do have fond memorys of the Cape. (mauh) Liz

My favorite Fourth of July activity is to watch A Capital Fourth on television at night - listen (and sing along some) to the National Orchestra and various armed forces bands - and the 1812 Overture with the cannons booming during the fireworks in front of the Washington Monument. I love it. mlwright29 (at) hotmail (dot) com

My fondest memories of July4th have been at military installations. Talk about the spirit of America! So touching especially the year my husband was deployed to Pakistan. The fireworks were meant for him and his troops.
Thank you for the chance to win.

I grew up on a small town, and I loved the parade. Lots of Boy and girl Scouts, Veterans, marching bands. After we'd have a BBQ with home-made icecream, and when it got dark head to the high school for the fireworks.

Love the bowl. I have purchased the supplies but have yet to try making one. We got rain most of the day on the fourth.
