Friday Finish

 I'm really excited that I was able to finish this quilt.  I started it during the Kaleidoscope Quilt Along last June!  I was keeping up with the instructions, but once the top was done it was set aside.  I had decided who I would give it to, and wouldn't need it for almost a year.  So there it sat in the WIP pile for 10 months!

When I finally decided to get going on my May/June project list, I flipped through the quilt along Flickr group for quilting inspiration.  Celeste Johnson's quilting was just the ticket.  I think it makes the shapes look faceted, like jewels.

I'm not completely happy with the back.  It would have been better with the darker solid on the ends, but the pieced strip of leftover triangles looked terrible next to the floral print.

 The quilting looks so cool on the solid back!

It's such a gorgeous day, just had to get one more shot!

I have a title in mind, but I can't tell you until after it is gifted.  The recipient might read this!

Edit: This quilt was gifted to my daughter's best friend, Genevieve, for her high school graduation. Her favorite color is purple, so as soon as I pulled the fabric, I knew it would be for her.

WIP Wednesday

Wednesday seems to sneak up on me each week! We did make it to the beach last Wednesday and hope to get there again today.

Ongoing:
For the Love of Solids Swap- We got our partner assignments and I went straight to work! I've been wanting to try some English Paper Piecing with different shapes. Here we have hexies, diamonds and petal shapes. I need a hand piecing project for our family vacation (I'll tell you all about it when we get home). They are tiny pieces, so there are lots of them! The drawing is my mock-up of a table runner that finishes about 9" X 22". I'm trying to decide if I should add more colors. Some greens? A contrasting color?

4X5 Modern Quilt Bee- I picked up some fabric last week that will work for a couple of people in our bee. These blocks will be paper-pieced but we are all out of printer paper! I'll need to swing by Staples later today.


Nonna's Garden- I'm bordering the whole thing with a ring of darker green.


Kaleidoscope Quilt Along- This needs to be done(!) by Aug 5th to be eligible for prizes. I pulled some larger pieces of purple from the stash to piece the backing.

Kaleidoscope QA- Cutting Day

I know it's hard to believe, but I set aside the hexie project and haven't sewn a single stitch today. Yet!

Today was cutting day for Elizabeth's Kaleidoscope Quilt Along!


My kaleidoscope will be somewhere between the two sizes she provides instructions for. I had enough background fabric for 24 blocks, just barely. I did need to piece together the extra bits for the last 5 pieces.

Stacks of pieces are so satisfying!

Purple Passion

I've jumped on the Kaleidoscope bandwagon with Elizabeth's Quilt Along at Don't Call Me Betsy.

I decided to finally use up this basket of purple fat quarters and scraps that I've had for almost 10 years!

Neatly folded = much better!

There is probably enough fabric in here to complete the quilt, but I'm sure I will be tempted to purchase a few modern pieces of purple. I will definitely need to buy the background fabric. Solid or print? We shall see.
