Selvedging Along

I will be playing with selvedges along with Quilty Habit and Quilts of a Feather. To start, they've asked us to show how we store our selvedges. Mine are all in this big lined basket in a jumbled mess. I'm in awe of the quilters who have their selvedges stored by color, folded neatly in ziplock baggies.

Earlier this year, I made this selvedge log cabin wall hanging in response to the RIMQG log cabin challenge.

I had a few extra blocks which became a giant pillow.

My first selvedge project was this spiderweb wall hanging made in 2013.

 I had so much fun quilting this one!

 I will be teaching a class called "Salvaging your Selvedges" in September. This table runner is my class sample of a sampler table runner.

I'm ready to play! Maybe I'll start by sorting my selvedges by color like the cool kids.

Kaleidoscope QA- Cutting Day

I know it's hard to believe, but I set aside the hexie project and haven't sewn a single stitch today. Yet!

Today was cutting day for Elizabeth's Kaleidoscope Quilt Along!


My kaleidoscope will be somewhere between the two sizes she provides instructions for. I had enough background fabric for 24 blocks, just barely. I did need to piece together the extra bits for the last 5 pieces.

Stacks of pieces are so satisfying!

Purple Passion

I've jumped on the Kaleidoscope bandwagon with Elizabeth's Quilt Along at Don't Call Me Betsy.

I decided to finally use up this basket of purple fat quarters and scraps that I've had for almost 10 years!

Neatly folded = much better!

There is probably enough fabric in here to complete the quilt, but I'm sure I will be tempted to purchase a few modern pieces of purple. I will definitely need to buy the background fabric. Solid or print? We shall see.

Charms In Progress

I've been working on Pat Sloan's Lucky Charms Sew Along. The sections are pieced and the center is waiting for applique. My charm pack was small, so I had to pull from my stash to supplement. So far, so good!

My Mess

To be fair, this is just one of my many messes! The plan is to CLEAR this table today. It is visible from the front door, which is really unacceptable. I played around in photoshop to add captions. I'd rather sit here in the sun than work down in a dark basement. But I should only bring up one project at a time. Ha, Ha!
I finished trimming my half square triangle blocks last night for Judy's Quilt Along. I'm happy to have step 2 done early.OK. Time to get to work. I hope to have "after" pictures for you later!

P.S. I bought a Neti pot this week after reading the Shnoodle post and comments. I actually feel better with no drugs! Pete wants to try it to see if it helps with his allergies in the Spring.

Quilt Along / Quiltathon

For today's Quiltathon, I'll be sewing up my half square triangles for the Quilt Along. I cut out all of my squares last night and drew a diagonal line across the lights. When I'm ready to sit at the machine, I'll sew 1/4" on both sides of the line, cut them apart, press open and trim. It works for me.

When I was at my sister's house this week, I photographed the table runner I made for her last Fall, in situ. The tumbling blocks are made from woven tubes of fabric, so it's reversible. It was fun, but I haven't made one for myself yet. I was happy to have the Turn-it-All tools to turn all those tubes. The pattern is from Dream Weaver Patterns.





And I never took a picture of the matching game I made for Lily for Christmas. There are a dozen pairs of squares with novelty animal prints on one side and they all have purple fabric on the back. There is Peltex interfacing on the inside, one row of stitching near the edge, and I cut them out with a pinking blade. Super fast, easy, cute and fun! The drawstring bag holds them all. The best part is that Lily already knows all the animals and she actually plays with it. For now, they keep the squares face up for her to find the matches. When she gets a little older, it can be a memory game, with the pictures face down. The tutorial is on the Michael Miller blog.This is the first day in a week that I have woken up without a headache. My nose is still running, but I feel much better. I won't be making the trip to see Mark Lipinski, though. There's too much to do around here.
