WIP Wednesday

I've been trying to squeeze sewing time in between family stuff. Nothing serious, just time consuming. I did manage to finish a couple of things this past week.

Garnet and Gray is done, but I haven't done the big reveal post yet. I need to get a decent full length pic first. I'm super happy with it!

I made 11 more bandana drool bibs for Mollie, my grand niece.

Today, I'm replacing the binding on this well-loved quilt from a customer. I have three sides to go with hand stitching while I watch NCIS.

There is so much in progress, I'm afraid to list it all! Instead, I'll show you my buddy, the Baltimore Oriole. I can't get enough of this beauty. (Please ignore the dead grass in my backyard.)

At the top of the To Do list: my block for the American Made blog tour. This is going to be fun!

Right now, I think it's time for a little surfing...

More Bibs for Mollie

Remember this bandana drool bib I made last week for my grand-niece Mollie?

I made 11 more!

I had no plans for these 10" strips of minky leftover from receiving blankets, so I was happy to use it for the bibs.

I pulled a bunch of cute coordinating flannel and quilting cottons from stash and got to work.

I followed this tutorial by Jacq at Begin with B, and I have a couple of tips for you.

1. Prewash everything! Cottons will shrink, but minky doesn't. If you don't prewash, when the bibs are washed after use, they will shrink up funny and never be flat again.

2. I cut the cotton/flannel to size according to the pattern in the tutorial, then laid the pieces right sides together on a large piece of minky.

3. I stitched them down using a walking foot to try to tame the stretchy minky. Then I cut them apart.

The messy piles of fabric are now this neat pile of bibs!

As proof that Spring has arrived, our Baltimore Oriole is back in town!

Have a great week!

Scattered Tuesday

This is what my kid did at work today! OOHRAH!
(He's not in the picture. I'll probably never get a picture of him doing anything this cool.)

I couldn't focus on any one project today, so I worked on four! I made this cute drool bib/bandana for Mollie. It was a request from her mom, and I'll make more if this one works for them. I used the dimensions in this post from Begin with B.

I quilted a few rows on this donation quilt so I could remove most of the pins. I'll need them for my father-in-law's quilt.

Speaking of my FIL, I pieced the backing for Garnet and Gray, but no picture.

I picked up this quilt from a customer who wants me to replace the worn out binding. This is one well-loved quilt! Judging from the calicoes that I recognize from my own wedding quilt, this log cabin was pieced in the late 80's. Other than the binding, it's in fairly good shape besides being very faded. It's super soft and cozy, so I can see why she wants it repaired.

I'll let you know when Pete starts jumping out of helicopters, instead of just dangling from them!
