Block Party

I had my own little block party!

I made these 4 little (6.5") string blocks for the new Mini Scrap Basket Block Swap. I'm hoping this swap will replace the void left by the closing of the Teeny Weeny Paper Piecing Bee. The tutorial for this block is from Film in the Fridge. These blocks were a blast to make, but boy, did I make a mess of my scraps! I can't wait to dive in again.

The Block Lotto block for November is Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Trip Around the World. These were fun and quick, too, but Julia described them as hideous. Her word, not mine! Granted, they are not my favorite fabrics to work with anymore, but I did get to use up some strips that were already cut and waiting in their 2.5" strip bin.

I also completed the Paper Panache Mystery block, which I can't show you until Linda reveals the mystery. Here's a tiny peek!

I'm off to work on block 2 of the Blogger's Bom.

October Block Lotto

Here are my October blocks for the Block Lotto. It is Quilter's Choice month in blues and cream. We were allowed to choose our own patterns, but could only make as many as three blocks in each pattern, so the winners will receive a nice assortment.

The first block is Duck Tracks.

This one is called Waste Not.

And this one is Block #1 of the Blogger's BOM.

These were fun blocks to work on. Still waiting and hoping for my first win!

WIP Wednesday

I've had a very productive week! I think it's because I've been cutting or sewing every possible moment. I worked on a lot of small stuff, but it feels great to accomplish so much.

Finishes:
Nonna's Garden is done, except for a label.

Interlocking Windmills for Quilts of Valor - top is done and ready to pass on to a long-armer.

Blocks:
4x5 Modern Quilt Bee blocks are done and shipped.

September Block Lotto Curved Rail blocks are done.

Blogger's BOM- This looks like it will be a fun BOM! I'm using Denise Schmidt fabrics and some solids.

Blue block for Mod Conn meeting.

Starts:
Mini Ninnie Zig Zag for Ninigret Mini Auction.

Other:
We hosted an Apple Theme event for 46 Daisy Girl Scouts yesterday. (We were prepared for 60.) I prepared the craft project, an apple pencil topper. Glue dots are the best craft invention ever! Do you think I have a large enough stash of googly eyes?

I hope I can maintain this momentum for another week!

Now, off you go...

Block Lotto- September

Here are my Block Lotto blocks for September.

The block is called Curved Rails. It is simple and effective, especially in batiks.

This is my favorite block of the bunch!

WIP Wednesday

It's been a busy week and I actually got some cleaning and de-cluttering done. The house feels much more peaceful when I'm not surrounded by clutter! Now on to this week's quilty progress...

New Project:
I decided that I really didn't care for the first camera strap cover I made. So I ripped it off and made a cuter one!

Ongoing:
Nonna's Garden- I finished piecing the last row of dark green. I'm trying to decide if I will hand- or machine-quilt it.

Girl Scout Quilt- Two blocks were completed this week. Maia's...

and Julia's...

Here are half of my Block Lotto African violet blocks for August.

Finish:

Christin's Doll Quilt- I've been giving beginner quilt lessons to a neighbor and she completed her first project this week!

On Hold for a little while:

4X5 Modern Quilt Bee (I'm not completely happy with the blocks I made this week)
For the Love of Solids Swap
Kaleidoscope Quilt Along
Wedding Ring Star
Red & White Swap
Polka Dot Swap

Then there's all the stuff I still haven't touched all summer.
This Week:
Finishes- 2
New starts- 1
In progress- 20+

Now off you go to see more...

August Block Lotto

Well, I haven't won a block lotto yet, but I'm still plugging away at it. My goal was actually to use up stash, so I have been successful in that regard.

Here are my violets for August. This is a fun, fast, effective block. You can find Sophie's free pattern by clicking here.

I'd love to win this month. My mother-in-law always has several African Violet plants in her living room that are simply beautiful.

July Block Lotto

I had fun making these Liberated Checkerboards for the July Block Lotto. If I don't win this month, I might need to make some for myself. (I said that about the Pineapple Blossoms, too.)

The technique produces a pair of blocks that are negative images of each other. Cool, huh?

I used 4 different colors, plus white, to produce 4 sets of block pairs.

June Block Lotto

I was eligible for the Block Lotto sneak peek and got right to work on the June blocks.

The goal was a simple block in a tight color palette of green, blue and purple. When I went to pull fabrics, I grabbed a light, medium and dark of each color.

Then I cut the pieces and sorted them out so each block would have 1 light, 1 medium and 1 dark AND 1 green, 1 blue and 1 purple. The sewing went very quickly! I think these simple blocks can make a very effective, stash-busting charity quilt.

Here's the dark green from the year 2000! It is definitely time to use this one up.

Blossoms

Just a quick post to show you that I am still here and sewing (a little). This is my test block of Pineapple Blossom for the May Block Lotto. It is a fun and easy block to piece, and I am looking forward to making many more. It is an excellent stash buster!

For the block lotto, we were asked to use white or white-on-white, at least 2 pieces of gold/yellow and at least 2 pieces of gray. Most of the 2" strips came straight from my bin of 2" strips (scrap user's system). With so much inspiration from Bonnie Hunter, I felt a little guilty for not using leaders and enders when piecing this block! I will definitely save the bonus triangles!

I made more! You can see them at Block Lotto!
