Happy Birthday, Juliette Low!

This post is my entry into the Bloggers Quilt Festival

AND
It honors Juliette Gordon Low's 150th Birthday!


This quilt, Brownie Heartstrings, was a group project organized by my daughter, Julia. She planned several Brownie badge workshops, so more than 50 Brownie Girl Scouts could learn to sew and create a charity quilt at the same time.


With the blocks completed, Julia assembled the top and did the machine quilting. You might be able to see the free-motion butterflies in the blocks.


Juliette (Daisy) Low founded the Girl Scouts in the USA in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia. To celebrate her birthday, 250 local Girl Scouts of all ages gathered at camp last week for a Halloween/Birthday Party.

For the party, Julia wore a vintage uniform from 1940. She presented the quilt to Mary Raymond, our guild charity quilt coordinator, for donation to the Linus Project. I think Daisy would be proud!

I've shown this quilt before when it was on display at the Lowell Quilt Festival, where it won a blue ribbon in the youth category!

Just so you know, a full sheet cake is not big enough for 250 girls, even when the pieces are cut really, really small! (The orange blobs are pumpkins.)

Quilts, camp and cake! It doesn't get any better than that!

Blue Ribbon

Look who won a Blue Ribbon at Images (Lowell Quilt Festival)!
Woo Hoo!

Remember when this quilt was kicking our butts?
We unquilted, bought better batting, re-layered and quilted again.
Much better!

The Youth category was hanging upstairs in the auditorium.
The tumbling blocks quilt was very pretty.

We loved the other Brownie quilt.
They used the Girl Scout fabrics and hand-pieced their blocks.
Nice job, girls!

My Geese in the Forest was accepted, but no ribbons for me!

We always enjoy seeing the car quilt!
Julia blends in, wearing her selvedge skirt. That skirt has become her quilt show uniform. It gets a lot of attention.

Quilt shows are great inspiration for finishing or starting quilt projects. This week, I'd love to finish my Mod Bento quilt, my hexagon table runner and last year's 9-patch swap.
Goals are good!

Ugh!

Has a quilt ever kicked your butt?

We're on a deadline with this one and it is NOT cooperating!


We've already torn out 2 rows of quilting, but at this point, we need to just plow through.


There will be no ribbons awarded for this puppy.

There was some good news, bad news and no news in my extended family this past week.
We lost a lovely Aunt to a brief illness. We will miss her.

But there will be new life! My niece is pregnant with her first child!
The needle test says...

It's a boy!
(There will be ultrasound confirmation in a few weeks.)
I've only been wrong once. Dozens of tests and the only one I got wrong was Anna.

We still haven't heard from Pete at the Jamboree. I figure no news is good news, but don't you think he should call his mother?!
